Today and other days
Dec. 9th, 2002 05:47 pmLast night was Jamie's birthday party! We went skating and then to Big Wok and generally had fun. Poor Ray, it was the first time he'd ever skated and hung onto the wall almost the whole time! But it was fun. We went to Coldstone and watched them mutilate ice cream. Yay. It really was fun, not only being with the birthday guest (yay!) but also seening everyone else. It was fun talking with Ashlyn, since I don't really know her, but it was really nice talking to Ray. I haven't talked with him for the longest time. He talked about him and his boyfriend (they sound absolutely disgustingly cute, and they're getting each other teddy bears for Christmas)and just stuff in general. Ray is really neat. He said he's out to just about everyone but his parents. I really hope they don't find out; it would probably be really tense if they did, worse than announcing that he was majoring in music, though it must be hard hiding something like that. He said something in the car going to Big Wok about how hard it was to hide it from everyone. It can't be too easy being out either, though, 'cause there are a lot of jerks in the world. Oh, we got Jamie a poster with a hot guy on it! Ray got her permission to hang it in her room. So that was fun. One thing that really wasn't so cool was people messing with Nathan's mind online. That really was sort of messed up, even if no one intended anything bad. It has taught me to be careful when you're chatting online, though, since you really never know who you're talking to.
Today was sort of annoying. I completely MISSED a question on my chem test, it turned out. [ok, I know sarcastic comments are coming] But we are done with new material though I am going to be reading ahead. Yay! Plus I had Cervantes. Noraly and Shawn cannot start a meeting on time. Gah. Plus I had to write an essay (which truthfully wasn't that bad). And Ms. Hunter squished the smidgen of hope I had of transferring in, not that I really thought there was a chance. Oh well.
Jamie's meeting Kirk tonight. I really, really hope it goes well. I admit I'm still a little skeptical of her seeing a 23-year-old, but I guess if he really is nice that would make it better... I just hope she doesn't do anything really stupid. [aka Jay's EVIL twin] Thinking that they're in love can get people like that sometimes.
So I think that's it for the day. I'm done reading the AcaDec materials on Far from the Madding Crowd. Yay.
So old news.
I went to Convention. It was really fun and boring. Well, sort of. Anyway. The business stuff was generally boring, especially Constitutions and Canons, but other stuff, especially the worship, was really cool. People were debating tiny stupid language changes. And the other youth delagates were talking during the presentations, which I found really rude. Seriously. I wasn't that much more interested than they were, but at least I was polite about being bored! And someone was having too much fun with PowerPoint in the budget presentation.
Bishops Bruno and Talton and Andersen had some really cool stuff to say about plans for new stuff in the diocese. The only problem was the presentation was really long.
Ok, cool stuff. The other young people were really nice, at least a lot of them were. I think that Isaac and Sarah both had a lot of fun. We went to a small amusement park and I did not feel well after it. One girl threw up four times, then started shaking. Not fun. She got to sleep in the next morning.
Among the things we were warned not to do were be out past curfew and switch rooms. So of course the other people in my room did these things. Caitlin (who was pretty much in charge) did room checks, but to no avail. Neither got caught though, which is good or bad depending on how you look at it. Oh, someone called at 1:30 am and asked for the girl who was not there. Grrr.
The next day was cool, since that was the final service. The services were nice overall, and I liked the sermons or whatever they're officially called. But the final service was way cool. Throughout it, there were presentations--a video--on this Hands in Healing program that went on. It was really, really touching and I would go on something like that if someone gave me a chance. What I liked also was the theme that you can make a diiference--just you. I'm not used to thinking like that.
Isaac kept whining for a hamburger and pronounced himself God in the car on the way home. Sometimes I wish I'd never met that boy.
People have warned me that I went to a very tame specimen of these. But still. I'd go back. Overall I enjoyed it, and it was worth sitting through the boring parts for the fun parts, especially the end.
