Iraq. Argh. Peace?

Oh God. Why? Why? Tell me, someone. The deadline's passed--I thought it would, half-hoped it wouldn't because we're in there whether he goes or not, it seems. I just hope and pray that everyone has all the wisdom they can have, and that everything turns out to be the best of a bad lot of probable outcomes... Why? One thing, though, I'm not planning to demonize anyone... not us, not them. It's not fair to our soldiers, who are out following orders, and it's not fair to the Iraqis, most of whom are just normal people. Like us. Who aren't as lucky as we are. And forget about the French already. We decided we were going to run roughshod over them anyway, so why not keep calling French fries French fries, forget the stupid freedom fries. Or freedom kissing, thanks, Jamie. Or whatever.
Can't someone make this whole mess ok? Someone? Anyone? Please?
I'm glad that Louis is still 17 and in high school, and that he'll be in ROTC for at least 4 years. He won't go speeding off to go fly jets for a while yet. I wonder what he thinks about this. But in the military, it's not really your job to think, not unless they tell you to. I'm never joining.
It's inevitable now. Has been for a while, but it's real now. I wonder what everyone else is thinking. I wonder what history's going to say.
