Uhhhhghh. It took me an extra day to get home because it's not possible to get 4 people with a total of 6 checked bags through customs, ticketing, and security in an hour and a quarter. So I stayed at a hotel in the DC area last night and got a flight home this morning. Got lucky and got the last open seat as a standby. That's my first real runin with the stupidity that is airlines and the obstruction they can bring so easily. I will be so happy if that never happens to me ever again.

So I'm home, and glad to be here, even though the trip seems to be evaporating out of my head and becoming less real to me. But still. That'll probably go away after I get some sleep. I am so exhausted.

What to say? I got a bronze. I came in 104th. I was sort of disappointed (ok, hit me if you want) until I finally convinced myself that under the circumstances it was a damn good job. With no physics, starting study late, and all of the stuff that was going on between study camp and the competition, and with the test (between you and me) as poorly designed as it was-- ok. I really am happy. Bobby got a silver (he's the one best in physics and math) and Eric and Ben got bronzes, and Eric and Ben and I were all within 4 places of each other. Bobby was about 20 highter. This was out of 238 students, total. I'll give anyone who wants it an account of the tests and such but I really don't feel like evaluating them now.

Listen and be amazed. I, Frances, was the wildest partier on the American team. And the one who liked the dances best. Who stayed up the latest. I was amazed--I found I could actually dance. And move my arms without feeling stupid.

Alex, a boy from Britain, taught me to salsa. So I danced with him a lot for both dances. Gr. I find a nice guy who I'd really consider getting to know better--and what's the problem? Distance. Big time. :( Anyway.

If I think hard enough I can probably think of some fingers to put down. Nothing too heinous, though, even if I did try ouzo. It's pretty good, actually.

Ruins are cool. It's pretty amazing to touch something that's been around for over 2000 years. We don't have that kind of history. A hundred is old to us. And the Greek landscape is so beautiful. So different, but beautiful.

I think that I'd like to visit England next time I go to Europe. I've always sort of wanted to, and now I know some people there, from the British and Irish teams. So whenever. In however many years it takes me to save up the money.

I'm rambling. I need sleep. And I love it when a guy knows how to dance. Well. I think I'll take ballroom dancing at Mudd.
