Jan. 4th, 2004 08:59 amThe trip was more or less uneventful. I left later than I thought I would since I was dropping Ray off at the airport (love ya, Ray!) and I ran into snow going over the Grapevine. There were signs saying the 5 was closed at Castaic, but they let people go over in groups with escorts. Not bad, and in a way a welcome change from the usual two options: ridiculous speed or follow the trucks. Those mountains are always beautiful, though, and they're even nicer in the winter. Greener, with patches of red scrub (red branches, I don't know what it is). And then with snow, and with clouds hiding the tops of the mountains, even as close to the top as the road goes... it was a wonderful drive. No problems, after that. I ate snacks and listened to music and it was good. When I got up north of Sacramento, I saw a falcon sitting on a highway sign, a hawk stooping, and so many egrets. And there was frost this morning. And I was typing with a cat on my lap. Life is good. Even if I was up at 8 this morning. Except for matters of (...). Should've known from the last few days. Gr.
